diaper covers.

diaper covers

i really like using cloth diapers.
at first it was kind of annoying because we didn't get diaper covers right away and tried to use the plastic pants and diaper pins. that sucked. plus, little baby was so tiny, and still had his belly button stump, which the cloth diapers covered. it seemed easier to just use up the newborn disposable we already had.

then we bought some diaper covers, a few at a time. first we bought
litewraps and diaperaps and i mistakenly bought the small size instead of newborn size. they were both too big for him. then we picked up some small gdiapers from whole foods. these fit him well. i ordered some proraps classicclassic from the diaper service and those fit him really nicely.

he's starting to grow out of his newborn sized covers and soon i'll have to pick of a couple of small sized ones.
birth and beyond is opening a store in fremont soon. (YEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!)

i've seen some patterns online for wool soakers that look fun to make. i'm kicking myself for purging all of our wool sweaters when i cleaned out the closets when i was pregnant and nesting. GAH. i KNEW i could have used those for something!!

we have a diaper service which is AWESOME. it would be too hard for us to do cloth in our building ( one shared washer and dryer for 10 apartments.) and i wouldn't want to wash them all the time. especially since corey is still doing most of the cooking/cleaning/laundry right now. so i doubt he would want to wash dirty dipes.

so yeah, if you're thinking of doing cloth go for it. it's about the same price as disposables (a diaper service is, anyway) the diaper covers are an investment, but you don't have to buy them all at once. and if you keep them in good condition you could probably re-sell them.
every leak that the baby has ever had was from wearing disposable diapers.

also: although they fit newborns really well, pampers swaddlers are SCENTED and it doesn't say that on the package. gross gross gross.

i brought my own mic!

i just googled "i brought my own mic" to see if the simpsons reference came up and it didn't. i am very disappointed.

i just got back from the vid store with more project runway videos to watch. i carried little baby in his sling and he is still sleeping in it.
the other day i was reading more about carrying your baby in a sling and decided i would try again but put him in a different way this time. the last few times we've gone on walks in the stroller he wants out at some point and just wants to be held and likes to face forward. so i waited until he was just fed and awake and looking around and then put him in the pouch facing forward so he could see out. he really likes looking around and so this didn't bother him.
the other day i put him in while he was sleeping and we walked down to fremont. by the time we got our picnic stuff and sat down he was needing to be fed and i was able to breastfeed him while he was in the sling. it was great and hurt my back a lot less then if i was just holding him.

i am eating this trail mix that i made myself. it has mixed nuts, pretzels, crasins, dried pineapple and choco chips in it. the nuts are salted and kind of TOO salted for my taste. i really hate when things are too salted. like fries. or nuts.

having a baby makes you get up early.

yesterday morning mr. baby woke up at 5 and i was all "i'm sleepy!" and he was all "goo goo gah gah, i'm cute and awake" so we got up. i decided to stick him in his pouch and go on a walk to see the sun rise. we walked to the aurora foot bridge and the sun was too bright to be pretty so we went back home. he had fallen asleep by then so we could back to bed.
this morning at six i remembered that we hadn't put the diaper service dirty diapers out and i needed to put them out like, right then, because they diaper service guy comes really early (it's 6:45 and he just rang the buzzer). so we got up and i put baby in his pouch and he's asleep again!!

the past week or so we've been watching tv shows on dvd because regular tv is the worst right now. we just finished watching the second season of weeds and i'm starting the second season of project runway. i think after i finish project runway if i still need something to watch i might finish big love.

holy crap. i just looked at the bumbershoot website and tickets are $35 per day!!! 35 doll hairs??!?!?!? i remember when it was $8. we wont be going. we haven't gone since the tickets were like $20.......maybe 4 years ago. and we weren't able to see any bands because the lines are too long! oh wait, i think we saw nickel creek and wilco.

anyhoo,

anyhoo.

thingy-doos

it's sunday. both boys and the girl kitty are sleeping. i would really like to make cookies, but i would also like to sleep right now so i don't know what to do. i also really want to look at the internet. so yeah.... we'll see what actually gets done.

for the 4th we went to brad's house to watch fireworks. we made pulled pork and coleslaw to eat and it was really tasty. i only ate a little because i thought i would be able to have seconds later in the night but it didn't last long. i hope we make it again soon because it was good and i'm always hungry for good food.

4 weeks

wowsers. i can't believe little baby-doo has been here 4 weeks already. it seems like no time at all has gone by. mostly because the first few weeks i was getting so little sleep and all the days were blending into one extended day. now we're are getting more sleep and everything is going well for the most part.

things we need to work on:

little baby doesn't like to be carried very long in the pouch sling i got before he was born. he usually only tolerates it for 20 minutes tops before he starts crying. i'm wearing him right now and he's sleeping...i'm wondering if we just need to practice for a while for him to get used to it?
i have also try wearing him with a wrap (like the moby wrap) and he's not sure about being worn that way either.

so i've been watching insane amounts of tv lately. in the beginning it seemed like there were days when the tv was on all day and all night. we don't have cable so i watched a lot of the price is right, martha stewart and rachel ray (even though she annoys me) and all of those horrible summer time reality/variety show things that are on.
this commercial comes on sometimes and drives me insane.

time to go!
